Towards greater understanding of composing with the software medium, initial questions are taken as stimulus to explore the subject through artistic practice and critical thinking. This practice-based research (conducted 2009–2013) explores visual representation of sound in computer music software. Presented through contextualisation of the portfolio works are developments of a practice in which the acts of programming and composition are intrinsically connected. A new logic to the computational context is needed to fully take advantage of this environment. However, expert computer users lack the possibilities of using coding in those interfaces, and native computer users find that most of the icons they use have no references to real life elements. Mainstream software such as AVID, Adobe Premiere or Apple FinalCut allow to easily understand the principles of editing in real life analog mechanics. The logics used in analog cinema and video editing worked perfectly in this new environment, but they are not exhaustive. Analogous standards had an influence on the terminology used in software and were translated into the new environment (Echeverria 1999). Today's media content is mostly produced, distributed and viewed in a digital environment and uses standardized metaphors and icons that we all recognize. Platforms like Vimeo (2004) and YouTube (2005) have fostered the presence of audiovisual documents in the net. Since the turn of the 21 st century, online video has been popularized due to an increasingly higher bandwidth, better compression codecs and the popularization of technologies like Macromedia Flash and, more recently, HTML5. Most of those interfaces are visually appealing and the use metaphors that relate to the cultural, economic and political systems from where they belong (Lakoff 2003) and are conceived to address a specific audience. GUI allows visual exploration of possibilities and characteristics of the applications. This historical moment was important for the adoption of technologies by a large audience that was mostly familiar with analog processes instead of using computation. It is well known that metaphors used in the first personal computers helped to reduce the gap between analog and computational environments. Since then, Graphical User Interface (GUI) and the field of User Experience (UX), have been growing constantly. In the field of technology, the popularization of icons was done by Xerox and Apple in the early 1980s. The aim was to create a standard visual language that would be international and easy to understand for anyone. In the 1930s, Otto Neurath pioneered with the isotype the progressive development and use of icons in our culture. Standardised protocols such as language or other means of codes, common ways of interaction and a global infrastructure, are needed for the creation of a global society. Standards are important to set up bridges of communication. A critical approach to video editing interfaces. The artefact becomes a formalization of several ideas. It is a multidisciplinary project that involves UX design, software development and film shooting. The technical implementation becomes an experiment to test the importance of narrative patterns and structures of specific ways to formalise a story, while at the same time it questions the idea of final cut, authorship and finished work. Its artistic aim is to point out the relationship between humans and machines by letting the software make decisions during the editing process. This artistic artefact can be considered a working prototype that serves as a proof of a concept. Wedderburn said she, Veconi, Weatherspoon, and Kaja Kühl (an urban planner who supported last year's petition but who's praised aspects of the 962 Pacific proposal) met with Oelsner and stressed affordable housing for "people that are being forced out of the community." Hey there, We understand that this has been a lengthy process for you, and we truly appreciate your patience and cooperation. They can see in the previous messages what the problem was yet they make you go over it all again evert time. The whole process is draining, and extremely frustrating having to explain everything everytime I go on Meta support. I can only guess that Meta don't want their faulty headsets getting checked by an independent third party. I then asked to have the original faulty headset returned to me so I could have it independently looked at, as I have real safety concerns about these devices and I was told that I wouldn't be allowed to have the headset back that overheated. The whole process is ridiculous, they can see that the replacement headset hasn't been used by checking the serial number, yet I am expected to wait again, fot another replacement. Meta have now told me that I must return the replacement headset that doesn't work and they will send me another headset, which will take over two weeks. This replacement headset couldn't have passed any checks, it does not work and shouldn't have been sent out to me. It took three months for my first headset to be replaced and the only reason that the process was speeded up was when I told Meta that I use these devises for my business and that I advice parents on the equipment I use, they then purchase headsets.Ī second headset overheated in December so Meta said that they would send me a replacement, which they did but the replacement headset won't pair with any controllers and is completely useless. I am also very dissatisfied with the support I have received from Meta. I have some real safety concerns about this product. After a quick Google search I can see that this is a common problem. This is the second headset that I own that has overheated and started to melt. I own a mobile gaming business and own multiple Meta headsets. Carbon EngineeringĬarbon Engineering is another big name in the sector that has raised a total funding worth $110 million. To date, the company has raised $117 million in funding. Its key projects and partnerships with Climeworks are the aforementioned Orca plant and the EU-funded Arctic Fox pilot plant. Unlike other solutions in the sector, where the CO2 needs recycling, Carbfix offers a more permanent carbon sequestration solution. Carbfix’s technology aims to permanently store captured CO2 underground in rocks. CarbfixĬarbfix is a leading player in the carbon sequestration sector due to its novel carbon capture and storage technology. The company also prides itself on being cost-effective, as they claim they can capture CO2 for less than $30 per metric ton. In 2021, the company launched its new solution, CycloneCC, which can achieve over 90% carbon capture rates. One of its key partnerships is the industrial-scale carbon capture and utilization plant in Chennai, India which has an annual capacity to capture 60,000 tons of CO2. It has raised a total of $212 million in funding. To date, Carbon Clean has used its proprietary carbon capture process technology to sequester 588 metric tons of CO2. To date, it is the only direct air capture plant that permanently sequesters the CO2 instead of recycling it. The facility has the capacity to capture around 4,000 tons of carbon per annum. It launched its carbon capture and storage facility called Orca in 2021, in partnership with Carbfix. Recently, it has taken a step further and partnered with another carbon sequestration company called Carbfix to permanently store this CO2 instead of reselling it. So far, Climeworks has sold the collected CO2 to greenhouses and carbonated beverage companies. It uses its modular CO2 collectors, where large industrial fans draw in CO2-containing air into the plant, and a CO2-selective filter separates the carbon dioxide. The company recently raised $650 million in funding, the largest ever for a startup in the carbon removal sector. ClimeworksĬlimeworks is another established carbon sequestration company that uses direct air capture (DAC). One of their current key projects is the Brevik cement plant which has a CO2 sequestration capacity of 400,000 tons per annum. Though it was only established in 2020, it uses technology that has been developed by Aker for over 10 years. They also offer offshore and integrated solutions. Its key offerings include modular solutions that are easy to transport and install. The company uses their proprietary carbon capture solution to capture CO2 from waste flue gases from a variety of industries such as oil refineries and cement plants. It was listed in the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2020, and has a current market cap value of $750.65 million. It is one of the few publicly traded companies in the sector. Here are the top 5 carbon sequestration companies to watch for in 2024: Aker Carbon Captureįounded: 2020 A subsidiary of Aker Solutions, Aker Carbon Capture is one of the largest and most established of the carbon sequestration companies. This includes capturing carbon dioxide using large fans, changing the pH of the ocean to store more CO2 to recycling carbon emissions in cement production. The current carbon removal and sequestration market explores a broad range of technologies. That removal capacity should double per year by 2100 as shown in the chart below. Scientists estimated that the world has to remove up to 10 GtCO2 annually from the atmosphere by 2050 to decarbonize. Hence, carbon sequestration and removal needs to scale up significantly to remove existing emissions and halting continuing carbon emissions. The pace of developing renewable technologies cannot keep up with the rate at which the world is emitting carbon dioxide. What countries around the world have discovered is that this goal is not achievable by implementing renewables alone. This means that we can only afford to emit 400 gigatons of carbon emissions to stay under this limit. The Paris Agreement signed in 2016 set out an ambitious goal: to ensure that an increase in the average global temperature stays under 2C, ideally 1.5C. The main reason is that carbon sequestration technologies are not just beneficial to honoring our climate commitments, but crucial. The market for carbon sequestration has enjoyed an exponential growth in recent years, attracting vast interest from investors and governments. It is uncertain whether the occurrence of HSTCL is related to use of a TNF blocker or a TNF blocker in combination with these other immunosuppressants. Almost all these patients had received treatment with azathioprine or 6-mercaptopurine (6–MP) concomitantly with a TNF blocker at or prior to diagnosis. The majority of reported TNF blocker cases have occurred in patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis and the majority were in adolescent and young adult males. These cases have had a very aggressive disease course and have been fatal. Post-marketing cases of hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma (HSTCL), a rare type of T-cell lymphoma, have been reported in patients treated with TNF blockers including adalimumab products. Consider empiric anti-fungal therapy in patients at risk for invasive fungal infections who develop severe systemic illness.Bacterial, viral and other infections due to opportunistic pathogens, including Legionella and Listeria.Carefully consider the risks and benefits of treatment with adalimumab-aacf prior to initiating therapy in patients with chronic or recurrent infection.Monitor patients closely for the development of signs and symptoms of infection during and after treatment with adalimumab-aacf, including the possible development of TB in patients who tested negative for latent TB infection prior to initiating therapy.MalignancyLymphoma and other malignancies, some fatal, have been reported in children and adolescent patients treated with TNF blockers including adalimumab products. Antigen and antibody testing for histoplasmosis may be negative in some patients with active infection. Patients with histoplasmosis or other invasive fungal infections may present with disseminated, rather than localized, disease. Initiate treatment for latent TB prior to adalimumab-aacf use.Invasive fungal infections, including histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis, candidiasis, aspergillosis, blastomycosis, and pneumocystosis. Test patients for latent TB before adalimumab-aacf use and during therapy. Patients with TB have frequently presented with disseminated or extrapulmonary disease. Most patients who developed these infections were taking concomitant immunosuppressants such as methotrexate or corticosteroids.Discontinue adalimumab-aacf if a patient develops a serious infection or sepsis.Reported infections include:Active tuberculosis (TB), including reactivation of latent TB. Serious InfectionsPatients treated with adalimumab products including adalimumab-aacf are at increased risk for developing serious infections that may lead to hospitalization or death. Most cases occurred in patients receiving concomitant treatment with azathioprine or 6-mercaptopurine. Postmarketing cases of hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma (HSTCL), usually fatal, have been reported in patients treated with TNF blockers including adalimumab, primarily in adolescent and young adult males with Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis. Lymphoma and other malignancies, some fatal, have been reported in pediatric and adolescent patients treated with tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers such as adalimumab. Consider empirical antifungal therapy in at-risk patients who develop severe systemic illness. Monitor patients closely for signs and symptoms of infection during and after treatment, including the possible development of TB in patients who tested negative prior to treatment. Evaluate for latent TB and treat if necessary prior to initiating therapy. The risks and benefits of therapy should be carefully considered prior to treatment initiation in patients with chronic or recurrent infection. These infections have included TB, invasive fungal infections, bacterial, viral, and those caused by opportunistic pathogens including Legionella and Listeria. Patients treated with adalimumab are at increased risk of infection, some of which may become serious and lead to hospitalization or death. Benefits from new investments must generate rapid returns. Good business decisions, however, follow more than just technological trends. The development of new digital places like the metaverse and augmented reality is already being fueled by speech interactions over the internet. And you can hear it in a smart speaker near you between 20, roughly 95 million users of these devices increased. About half of the American adults used innovative home technology that year, demonstrating its popularity. By 2022, almost half of the people will use voice assistants, illustrating the new voice paradigm. Since more than two years ago, Wavel AI has been at the forefront of voice technology and now provides realistic AI voices.Īs touch screens replaced keyboards and mice in the 2010s, voice user interfaces and conversational interactions are rapidly gaining ground. The crucial technology of text-to-speech (TTS) is one of these. Invest in technology that enhances user experiences across points, from websites to mobile apps to a new generation of AI bots, to keep customers satisfied as their expectations change. Never before has this transformation been occurring at such a rapid rate. The public's preferences for interacting with brands change along with technology. One theory, however, holds true across sectors and throughout time: Companies prosper when they consistently deliver first-rate client experiences.īut, consumer expectations, which are never static, are what great customer experiences depend on. Every industry, every market, and every time provides unique obstacles. Making broad generalizations about business requires a lot of effort. Text-to-speech technology has numerous applications, including assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments, language learning tools, and automated customer service systems. The resulting synthesized speech can be output in various formats, such as MP3, WAV, or AAC, and can be played back on multiple devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and computers.

Generally speaking, 18 months is a great time to begin teaching your child about colors, but it’s not uncommon for children between 2 to 3 years old to be in the beginning stages of learning these concepts. It is important to remember that each child is different, so there’s really no one specific developmental timeline that will work for all children. Below are some tips and ideas regarding which time frames and methods are most useful for teaching your toddler about colors and shapes. Although no one doubts the importance of teaching colors and shapes, many parents have questions regarding when and how to introduce these concepts. Whether your child is looking at a rectangular building, a circular plate, a green tree or a blue sky, being able to recognize shapes and colors is a vital component of their cognitive development, and it will establish a strong foundation for subsequent educational concepts such as math and logic. Teaching your toddler about shapes and colors is an important step in their early development, because it helps them to define and organize much of the world they see around them.
